2K has been tinkering with a companion app to their prodigal basketball series for awhile now. Today they announced more details about the MyNBA2K17 phone app that will be used in conjunction with this year’s basketball title, NBA 2K17. The new feature that will delight fans the most will probably be the face scan technology within the app.
The previous two, 2K basketball games have allowed players to scan their face (if a camera was available) directly into MyCareer mode. Unfortunately, some would attest that the process was difficult and wonky. You’d be lucky to get anything that looked like you and not some horrible, mangled Mummy Frankenstein creature. The phone app is reported to make the process of scanning your lovable mug simpler and easier.
In addition, this year’s MyNBA app will also feature ways to earn Virtual Currency, mini-games leveraging live NBA game stats, ability to shop in the MyPlayer store, buy and sell cards on the Auction House, and watch 2KTV anywhere and anytime on your phone. Lastly but certainly not least, NBA superstar Karl-Anthony Towns will be the face of the MyNBA2K17 app icon. Mr. Towns won 2016 NBA Rookie of the Year with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“I’ve been a dedicated NBA 2K fan since I was young, and being selected as the face of MyNBA2K17 is an incredible milestone this early in my career,” said Karl-Anthony Towns. “Playing MyNBA2K and NBA2K is an essential part of my offseason and keeps me grounded during the season with all my travel. I love that I will have the opportunity to connect further with my fans through MyNBA2K17.”
The app will release on September 8th, 2016 while NBA 2K17 itself will launch on September 16th, 2016. You can pre-order it here.
