Need for Speed is still a thing and EA is pushing forward with a new entry in the very long-running franchise. The latest instalment, Need for Speed Heat was announced earlier by Electronic Arts, along with a cinematic trailer to set the scene for what Heat is all about.
The trailer, which you can watch up above, gives us a quick glimpse of in-game action, but it’s mostly comprised of cinematic material and moody voice over work. They’re still taking it seriously, then.
According to the EA press release, Need for Speed Heat will see players taking part in legitimate street races by day before heading back out onto the streets at night to take part in illegal competitions, but players will have to be wary of the crooked cops who’ll play dirty when the sun goes down. It sounds interesting, to be fair, and hopefully it’ll set itself apart from the last few disappointing entries.
While the trailer released today isn’t full of gameplay, a proper gameplay reveal trailer will be shown at this year’s Gamescom, so be sure to check back in with Pure PlayStation for Gamescom week where we’ll be doing overtime to cover all the announcements.
Need for Speed Heat will release on November 8th for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Pre-orders are live on the PlayStation Store where there’s the regular and deluxe digital editions.
