Do you need a nice surprise today? The World Ends With You is getting a sequel, and it’s coming to the PS4 next summer. Both of those are shocking in their own way, but it’s good news for fans. The character design is being handled by Tetsuya Nomura, Gen Kobayashi, and Miki Yamashita. Nomura worked on the original game’s character design as well as characters from Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. Gen Kobayashi also worked on character designs for the previous game. (Wikipedia gave me the info for Nomura and Kobayashi, but I don’t see anything for Yamashita. It’s probably another artist at Square Enix with some serious future potential to keep on your radar.)
A new Reapers’ Game is starting up in Shibuya and main character, Rindo, has been caught up in the dangerous competition. He won’t be hiding in a corner waiting for death. As you explore a stylized area of Tokyo, you’ll meet other players, fight monsters, and try to understand and survive the game. The trailer gives a good idea of all those activities along with the visual style and soundtrack. At roughly two minutes long, it’s worth a watch.
With a summer release, the wait for NEO: The World Ends With You is not very long. I like and wish more companies would surprise us without making us wait two years to play something. Will a sequel to a cult classic rekindle the same feeling as the original? Check out the trailer, and make your predictions. You know as much as any other internet games prognosticator.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
