Everyone’s favourite blue ball hedgehog is set to bounce back on screens in a new 3D animated series called Sonic Prime. The series is expected to drop in 2022 and is created from several contributors ranging from the home of Sonic himself SEGA and streaming service heavy hitter Netflix. The show itself will be animated at Vancouver-based studio part of WildBrain.
Wildbrain is a Canadian media company which has produced fan-favourite series like Snoopy in Space and the new Carmen Sandiego series on Netflix. Furthermore, Man of Action Entertainment responsible for Ben 10 and Mega Man: Fully Charged has also been enlisted as Showrunners and Executive Producers for the series. Sonic Prime was revealed on Netflix’s Twitter:

The series itself will be a 24-episode animated adventure aimed at kids, families, and long-term sonic fans. The story explores a strange new multiverse and will thrust Sonic into a journey of self-discovery and redemption. On the official Netflix page for Sonic Prime, Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer at SEGA commented:
“Sonic the Hedgehog is a global entertainment icon that has captivated audiences since its video game debut in 1991. With over 1.14 billion game units sold and downloaded to date, an exciting feature film, a robust licensing program and more, SEGA’s iconic hedgehog continues to surprise and delight audiences worldwide. We’re thrilled to partner with WildBrain, Man of Action Entertainment and Netflix to speed into this new, animated chapter in the Sonic franchise.”
Sadly, though this news comes off the back of Roger Craig Smith’s recent departure, which has been the voice actor of Sonic for over 10 years, meaning, Sonic Prime will equally have a brand-new voice actor thrown into the mix.
