The new coat of paint has been applied to the PlayStation Blog, and it looks a lot like the EU PlayStation Blog. (Congrats, Europe. You finally got something first.) The stories are still there along the right side with the spotlight story at the top of the page. There is a horizontal section right above the stories that shows the trending articles, if you want to see what’s exciting your fellow gamers the most. Videos and trailers are at the bottom.
There are some extra links along the right bottom side of the page. If you like to be social, there are links to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch. The links to buy all things PlayStation such as the store, PS Plus, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Music, and PlayStation Vue are almost at the very bottom. If you click on the PS Store link at the top, it only takes you to articles, so keep the new link location in mind.
My fellow writers know more about general design than I will ever hope to know, but the white with blue highlights looks clean and fresh. Text is a gray-ish black, and seems easy enough to read. It also looks fine on a phone.
I’m sure there are some bigger improvements under the hood. I can login to the site again, so maybe we have had some security updates as well? This also may be a big step forward in functionality for the future with features that we don’t yet see or know.
I would expect an official announcement and explanation from the team at the PlayStation Blog soon. Until then, give the new site a view here, and let me know what you think about the changes.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
