New Sonic Mania Gameplay Video Shows Off Special, Bonus and Time Attack Stages

The latest gameplay footage for Sonic Mania gives you a gander at its Special, Bonus and Time Attack Stages for the first time. And it is safe to say that SEGA has been busy.

Intuitively, the Time Attack Mode allows you to bail out of lacklustre attempts at any point; it makes sense, there’s little point prolonging the agony once the spit hits the fan. The Special Stages turn our beloved blue hedgehog into Mulder and Scully, whizzing his way around chasing not-so-elusive UFOs. And finally, the Bonus Stages waves a gold medal at you and says, ‘go get all of the rings.’

  • Special Stages – In Special Stages, players chase down enemy UFOs to secure various Chaos Emeralds. Collecting blue spheres along the way will give their character an added boost of speed to their meter. Once the meterfills up, the Mach level increases. Just watch out and don’t speed off the stage!
  • Bonus Stages – In “Blue Spheres”, players navigate Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles through a series of blue spheres to clear the stage. But be careful! Once touched, the blue spheres will turn red. Touching a red sphere instantly ends the Bonus Stage. Silver Medallions are awarded to players who complete the Bonus Stage, while collecting all the blue spheres and rings awards players with a perfect score and a Gold Medallion.
  • Time Attack – Time Attack was also revealed to be a new mode in Sonic Mania. Prove you’re the best of the best in Time Attack, which lets players compete for fastest speed in the world by recording their time in the game’s online leaderboard.

If you are prickling with excitement, Sonic Mania releases in just under two weeks on August 15th.

Have you got your red trainers laced up, ready to go?
