The Ni no Kuni series is set to continue past the second as it has today been revealed that a third installment is currently in development. This is designed to maintain the momentum enjoyed by the second game and upcoming movie.
Speaking in an interview with the Japanese publication Nikkei, Akihiro Hino – President of Level 5 – confirmed plans to nurture the franchise’s growth in the future to greater heights than those currently enjoyed. This includes the movie, which is destined for Japanese screens this summer, along with a mobile phone application. A remaster of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is also due out on the PlayStation 4 in September.
Following this news, the studio’s commitment to the franchise cannot be queried. Especially as they have now publicly outlined their plans for future instalments. But will they get the level of difficulty spot-on, next time round? And can the series’ protagonists keep players interested for the long term, just as the likes of Persona and Dragon Quest have done before it?
