Cyberpunk 2077 is on everyone’s mind. That’s why its official social media accounts are a hive of activity, despite there being around nine months between now and launch. This is a good thing, however, as it allows us to get our questions answered – just as one Reddit user did with their pre-order query.
But when the studio was asked whether reserving a copy of the game before its launch would result in any bonus content, the answer was one that no one expected.
Because in an industry that so often serves us up an incentive to part with our cash early – through additional skins, weapons or the like – CD Projekt RED are taking the completely opposite approach. Everyone who purchases Cyberpunk 2077, at whatever date – present or future – can enjoy the game with identical content. As the reply explained:
“We don’t do that. Every person that buys the game gets exactly the same in-game content, no matter if they buy it in pre-orders, on release date, or two years later.”
Which, I think you’ll agree, is a very admirable approach to take. One we wish was more common amongst developers, but is completely lost amongst the commercially-driven world we live in. However, the studio were equally as kind in their caretaking role for The Witcher 3, during which additional content was added post-launch at no additional charge. And whose expansions were retailed at a price far lower than the average. So perhaps our astonishment is misplaced.
