Fortnite will be a launch game on PS5, as announced today during the PS5 Showcase event. Of course it bloody is. Because how else are you going to get that sweet tween demographic to pester their parents to get them a next-gen console?
Not much was actually said about the next-gen version of the game, but we did get a trailer showing the game running on PS5. And, despite my obvious indifference for Fortnite, I’ve got to admit that it does actually look rather good.
I’m still not going to play it. Nuh-uh.
Today’s PS5 showcase brought more than a few announcements, too. The big one that had many gasping for air as the show hit its final notes was the tease for God of War: Ragnarok. We also had our first look at the long-rumoured Harry Potter RPG, Hogwarts Legacy. Sony also announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be available on PS4 as well as PS5, a sharp turnaround from the previously held line of “next-gen only.” Of course, we also got the good news that PS5 players who have an active PS Plus subscription would be treated to some free games available on day one. This has been dubbed The PS Plus Collection, and it carries with it a selection of the best PS4 games, including The Last of Us Remastered, God of War, and Battlefield 1.

Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
