Overkill’s The Walking Dead is starting to become a game known for bad news. And unfortunately today’s announcement is going to do little to change that as publisher Starbreeze Studios delay the title for a second time, just a month before it was due out.
But things only get worse as they also failed to pencil in a new launch date on consoles meaning a 2019 window could yet be in doubt.
The postponement has been blamed on performance issues, which are, apparently, badly in need of evaluation and reviewing. However, it is impossible to ignore the company’s precarious financial situation that must be contributing heavily to the change in tact.
For those of you who don’t know, Overkill’s The Walking Dead launched in 2018 for PCs, but it failed to miss all of the team’s targets. Despite heavily reducing the title on Steam, the company couldn’t avoid a tripling of their losses, and have been suffering the consequences ever since. More recently, they parted ways with their CEO in an attempt to salvage the situation, but there has been little evidence to show any growth.
In a separate incident, an employee was also detained on suspicion of insider trading.
All in all, Overkill’s The Walking Dead is living up to its name. You can’t help but feel one more blow could be enough to finally down this wounded survivor. We’ll bring you further news, good or bad, as we get it.
