Return to Camena in Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals.
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is coming to PS4 and PS5 following an announcement during the Playstation Blog’s Indie Showcase.
Developers Night School Studios had a hit on its hands back in 2016 with the release of Oxenfree garnering praise from critics and gamers alike. Blending supernatural elements with a grounded and intimate coming-of-age story Oxenfree focused on high schooler Alex who along with her friends tap into a ghostly signal and attempt to solve the mysteries of Edwards Island.
Oxenfree 2 will continue this theme but this time with a slightly older cast rather than the rag-tag group of high school friends in the original. Players will take on the role of new character Riley Poverly, a post-adolescent who returns to Camena seeking direction in life by taking on a job as an environmental researcher.
Riley is dragged into the spooky goings-on in Camena and is forced to investigate and plant radio transmitters to discover the source of the anomaly. Very little is known about the plot of Oxenfree 2 outside of the reveal of Riley or how this game ties into the events on Edwards Islands which had multiple outcomes.
The gameplay will be familiar to many however with the return of the walk and talk mechanic which sees players navigate the world while choosing options from a selection of speech bubbles rather than be constricted to cutscenes. It’s a nifty feature that worked a treat in the first game and makes dialogue and character interactions seem much more fluid and natural.
Players will also have access to the radio once again although it remains to be seen if it will serve the same function and tap into supernatural signals as much of the plot of Oxenfree 2 remains tightly under wraps. If the trailer below is anything to go by however fans of the original will have a lot to look forward to and it seems like Nightschool Studios could have another winner on their hands.
Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals is set for release on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2022.
