2K Sports may have lost out on the deal for Codemasters and the F1 game franchise. But it seems they still have something to celebrate in PGA Tour 2K21. That’s because the golfing game has sold more than two million copies since its launch. Something that has surprised the team despite them being confident in its offering. And that sounds like its just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the humble golfing simulator.
From an outsiders point of view, it has all been an attempt to diversify their gaming selection – by exploring new sports and expanding their audience base. But from that foundation, it has also turned into quite the success (despite it still being early days). And seems to have given Take-Two the motivation to grow it further. Or as they put it, “we’re just really getting started“.
The comments came from Strauss Zelnick, who seemed to be overjoyed by the return on investment. In fact, he went on to say that it could easily become a “very profitable and exciting franchise“. And I can see why. All it would need is a little time and energy on their part, along with continued support from the community. But who knows how big this could grow. Maybe we’ll see PS Move attachments for a nine iron or virtual caddy buddies for company. Especially as real life courses are off limits at the moment.
Saying that, I’m only interested in the nineteenth hole – chin chin…
