The dark zombie comedy action-adventure game Ray’s The Dead releases today on the North American PlayStation Store for PS4 (and Steam), quite a few years after its original announcement during Sony’s E3 2013 press conference.
The stars Ray LaMorte who wakes up in a cemetery to find that he’s now a zombie. Lovely. Ray must unearth the truth about his untimely demise alongside his new friends – hordes of zombies. You’ll command minions to wage war against a range of ridiculous enemies, solve puzzles, and find secret areas with strategic gameplay inspired by Overlord and Pikmin.
Ray’s The Dead plays heavily on ’80s nostalgia with classic zombie-movie settings with some truly silly moments, including a battle against Soviet tanks, a pimped-out monster truck, a mystical old man, and other weird and wonderful foes.
“Zombies aren’t known for their land speed, but when they arrive, they bring the time of your afterlife,” said Shawn Halwes, technical director. “Smash some stuff and eat some brains, but beneath the rotting surface, we think you’ll find an underlying message about seizing your second chance.”
The developer has also confirmed that Ray’s The Dead will be playable on PS5 on day one thanks to the game being backwards compatible.
Ray’s The Dead is out now on PS4 in North America for $19.99 and will release on October 29th for PS4 in Europe. A Nintendo Switch version will release in 2021.
