As an infrequent and subsequently terrible poker player, Poker Club is an interesting release. It takes care of all the shuffling and rules, so you can just play. A new trailer offers an extended look at the gameplay with commentary from the game’s director. There are a few modes from the big PCC Tournament to smaller and custom games. The main tournament can have up to 228 players competing for the top spot and winning here will take more than a little bit of luck.
The game demo goes on to show a custom game at one of the mid-level locations in the game. It’s an 80s themed club with a glass wall that lets in the streaming moonlight. The game puts you in a first-person view to immerse you in the game. It’s also a chance to show off the textures and ray tracing if you have it on the PS5. Fortunately, it’s a cross-gen buy, so you can grab it on the PS4 and move up whenever you can find a PS5 in 2022.
A lot of work has gone into the visuals, but there is even more under the hood. A lot of care has been added to the AI across the game. This applies to the different personalities of your opponents, but even more so to the dealer. Everyone hates a cheating dealer, and the devs at Ripstone Games are making sure you have a fair chance but doing things like pulling the cards from the server only when they need to be drawn.
The rest of the trailer walks you through a game with all the ins and outs. You can even do chip tricks and taunt your opponent if you want. The gameplay is about eight minutes long and goes into a lot more depth. If you want to start your journey to become a poker legend you can grab Poker Club for £19.99/$24.99/€24.99 on November 19th, and that price is the same on the PS4 and PS5.
