Exclusives sell consoles and help fuel the perpetual console war by giving its soldiers games to list endlessly on gaming forums and Twitter. Sony’s got some ammo for its soldiers, and plenty of it.
If you think the PS5 is lacking next-gen blockbuster exclusives, you’re not alone. Thankfully, Sony knows what players want and there are over 25 exclusives in development for PS5, with almost half of them being completely new games not based on any existing series or franchise.
Hermen Hult, PlayStation Studios head, recently spoke to Wired and revealed that the PlayStation Studios group is hard at work on bringing new games of every size and genre to PS5.
“There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” Hulst told Wired, before continuing to describe the games as big, small, and different genres.
Some games we already know about, of course, such as Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, God of War: Ragnarok, and The Last of Us Remake. Others have been rumoured, like Uncharted 5, which is supposedly in development with a new team within PlayStation Studios. There’s also the definite Spider-Man sequel from Insomniac Games, but that has not yet been confirmed.
We may see more of these unannounced games soon enough; E3 2021 is just around the corner, and while Sony seems to be shying away from the event, there’s no doubt the company will want to ride the wave of interest it generates, so expect an announcement or two this summer.
