Sony has today revealed the PS5 release date and price, ending months of speculation. The platform holder has also revealed the pricing of its own first-party launch games. Some of them are quite expensive, especially if you live in mainland Europe.
The small selection of first-party launch day games will range in price from $49.99 to $69.99 in North America, and €59.99 to and eye-watering €79.99 in mainland Europe. You can find the confirmed prices down below, courtesy of Sony.
- Astro’s Playroom – Free
- Demon’s Souls – $69.99/€79.99
- Destruction All Stars – $49.99/€59.99
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – $49.99/€59.99
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition – $69.99/€79.99
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure – $59.99/€69.99
To be fair, some of these are in-line with current-gen new game launch prices, but others are quite a bit more expensive. Demon’s Souls, a remake of a fairly old game, will cost $69.99/€79.99. That’s insane. What’s more insane is that the game will no doubt sell very well.
If you want to play everything Sony has to offer, nevermind third-party releases, you’d better start saving some cash.
Today’s PS5 showcase brought more than a few announcements, too. The big one that had many gasping for air as the show hit its final notes was the tease for God of War: Ragnarok. We also had our first look at the long-rumoured Harry Potter RPG, Hogwarts Legacy. Sony also announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be available on PS4 as well as PS5, a sharp turnaround from the previously held line of “next-gen only.”
