Sony finally announced the pricing and release dates of the PS5 today during the PS5 Showcase event, but it missed one crucial little detail: When can we pre-order PS5? You’d think that the platform holder would have included that vital piece of information, no?
No, it didn’t. Instead, we’re getting the news like most people do these days: via Twitter.
Sony’s official PlayStation Twitter account has stated that pre-orders will begin “as early as tomorrow” with “select retailers,” indicating that pre-orders may not be live worldwide at the same time, nor will they be available to every retailer.
If you’re desperate to get your hands on a PS5 pre-order, you’re best off keeping an eye out for your retailer of choice to open up their inventory to pre-orders and then prey that you can put in your payment details before the scalpers buy them all up.
Today’s PS5 showcase brought more than a few announcements, too. The big one that had many gasping for air as the show hit its final notes was the tease for God of War: Ragnarok. We also had our first look at the long-rumoured Harry Potter RPG, Hogwarts Legacy. Sony also announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be available on PS4 as well as PS5, a sharp turnaround from the previously held line of “next-gen only.” Of course, we also got the good news that PS5 players who have an active PS Plus subscription would be treated to some free games available on day one. This has been dubbed The PS Plus Collection, and it carries with it a selection of the best PS4 games, including The Last of Us Remastered, God of War, and Battlefield 1.
