Sony has announced today that the next PlayStation console will indeed be called ‘PlayStation 5’, or, as a shorthand, PS5. This much was a given, really, but since the initial announcement back in April of this year, Sony hasn’t said a damn thing about its next-gen plans. The initial announcement even skipped out on giving the machine a name, leading some to believe that Sony would not follow the PS4 with a PS5.
Today’s announcement also brings confirmation to what many already suspected: PS5 will release during the holidays of 2020. Obviously no exact date has been given, but a safe bet is that it will release between September 2020 and November 2020, just in time for Christmas. It’ll no doubt be an expensive purchase, so if you want to be in the loop on the day of release, you’d better start putting some pennies to the side every month, starting now!
