Pure PlayStation Plays: Week 213

It’s the weekend! Fire up that dusty old console. Turn up the TV real loud so you can hear it over that PS4 cooling fan that has sounded like an AC 130 for a couple of years, and play some games!

If you’re anything like me, firing up the ole PS4 after getting our first official look at the PS5 isn’t going to be easy. I mean, despite it looking like a villain from an ’80’s teen movie with a popped collar, we’re all pretty excited to get our sticky fingers on it. I don’t know how much it’s going to cost, but no matter how much we complain, we all know we’re going to grab one. Let’s face it, it’s an addiction that has no cure. Okay, it probably has a cure, but I like the sickness.

After 179 hours (not that I’m counting…) in the company of a 4-year old, I’ll soon be free of my duties and able to do whatever I want, within reason. This weekend, I’m cracking open a bottle of whiskey, a bit of the devil’s lettuce, and then I’m going to play whatever takes my fancy. I’m actually considering giving Horizon: Zero Dawn another go. The only gaming I’ve really done this past week has been LEGO Star Wars, so anything other than that will be a win. Sounds sick, but I need to see some blood.

The PS5 event yesterday revealed a bunch of upcoming games including Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Then it suddenly dawned upon me that I never got around to playing Ratchet & Clank on the PS4. It may be time to get reacquainted with the dynamic duo this weekend. Then again, I noticed that Stranded Deep is currently on sale. So many games to play – so little time.

I’ll be working on a review and seeing more of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Aside from that, I may have to help the little gamers in my house if they are stuck in LEGO Ninjago. For a game that was given away for free, it seems pretty good, and most of our communication has some Ninjago or LEGO content in it right now.

It’s a weekend of a dilemma for me – do I start something new with The Last of Us Part 2 only a week away, or jump into something old to pass the time? I’ve really enjoyed playing Desperados 3 (go check out my review here!) so I might try to mop up some more trophies or complete a few of the Baron’s Challenges, or I could just go back to causing chaos and destruction in Just Cause 4. Either way, when Plays comes around next week my response will be a 6-word answer.

With The Last of Us Part II just a week away, my mind can’t focus on much else other than the impatient desire to get lost in that world. However, to tide me over I’ve been playing Murdered: Soul Suspect. I’ve had a recurring urge to play detective games this year for some reason and while it’s far from a masterpiece, I’m enjoying it a lot more than expected. Once I’m done with that I’ll probably take a little break to ensure I’m emotionally and physically ready for The Last of Us Part II.

I haven’t had much time for gaming lately, and I won’t have much time this weekend either, but I’m going to make some time. Even if it kills me. I just picked up a Bowling game for the Quest that is pretty fun, and I always have time to bust out my gunstock for some VR firefights in the latest Contractors beta on the Oculus Quest. But maybe, I’ll forget about the real world and play through the original The Last of Us before the big release.
