Let’s not beat around the bush – we all know what’s going to happen this weekend. We’re all going to sit at our computers, laptops and phones waiting for Amazon to restock its supply of PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Unless you’re one of the few who managed to bag a pre-order already, that’s how the weekend will be spent – don’t deny it.
Or at least that’s just what I’m going to be doing, and, selfishly, I hope I’m not the only one. C’mon, we’re all in this together! But we’re also all enemies. It’s like pre-ordering a console has itself turned into a battle royale. What next? Will we be forced to compete in The PlayStation Games for the PS6? Will I rise as the saviour? Will I overcome the odds? And will I grow a gorgeous braid of hair like Katniss? We’ll have to wait for that weekend to come around, in the meantime, here’s what the Pure PlayStation team is doing this weekend.
I’m up to my eyes in work. I’ve got numerous videos that I’m working on, a few reviews, including The Walking Dead: Onslaught. I recently did a silly little video about the game which you should watch if you’re in need of a giggle.
My general gaming plans involve getting nostalgic with Super Mario Sunshine, getting pissed off with Super Mario 64, and wondering why I never played Super Mario Galaxy before. Yes, I bought into the trio on the Switch, and I have no regrets.
I’m going to be spending a lot of time inside my PSVR headset, too, bashing zombie heads in Minecraft VR, and cutting them off in The Walking Dead: Onslaught. If Jez and I can sync up our Pure Schedules, maybe a little bit of Onward VR on the Quest could happen. It’s always good fun and we’re getting so good at the game now that we can go an entire round without shooting each other. Mostly…
This weekend will be spent trying to secure my ticket into the next gen with a PS5 preorder. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to trying out Solaris: Offworld Combat on the Oculus Quest with Chris. I’ll suck at it, but that never stops me.
Another review will probably soak up all my gaming free time this weekend. If I need a brief change of pace, I’m trying to clear the Metro trilogy before Metro: Exodus leaves PS Now in a couple of months. I’m also looking forward to starting a new character in Path of Exile and becoming a master thief in the recently released Heist expansion.
I was going through all my old Game Boy Advance games earlier on in the week and I didn’t just find Crash Fusion, but Spyro Fusion as well. Honestly, I don’t remember ever buying these games, but they even have save files stating I’m 20% through the game, so apparently I have played through them! Let’s see if there was a reason I didn’t get past 20%…
It’s going to be another weekend of Assembling in the Avengers, which has managed to keep me on the hunt for loot over the last month or so since its release. Crystal Dynamics is still ironing out the kinks, but so far the experience is a fun one. Should I get bored having company to play with I have the last few parks on THPS 1+2 to 100% and I might even treat my self to Mafia Definitive Edition who knows – weekends are wild over here.
I will be patiently awaiting further news on Planet Coaster, which just has to come out soon because I really want another sim on console, as well as trying to grab myself an Xbox Series X. With the PS5 being partially restocked today, I’m hoping Microsoft will do the same. But I do have super Mario 3d All stars to keep me company when the inevitable disappointment hits.

Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
