There’s a new rumour doing the rounds today suggesting that Rockstar Games is aiming to steal a little of Cyberpunk 2077‘s thunder by releasing Red Dead Redemption Remastered on December 10th, the same date as CDPR’s long-awaited sci-fi RPG.

The rumour comes by way of Reddit where a user posted an image to a Red Dead Redemption Remastered Amazon search result in Google. I’ve since tried this myself by searching for “Red Dead Redemption Remastered” on Google, and sure enough, I got the same Amazon link on the first page. Clicking the link takes you to a generic Amazon listing page with no Red Dead Redemption Remastered in sight.

It’s possible that this is just an elaborate hoax by some cruel, twisted, sick individual who would dare to play with the hearts of gamers. On the other hand, it could be a genuine leak, but it seems unlikely.

Rockstar isn’t known for quietly releasing anything, but instead likes to drum up a lot of noise to hype up the incoming release. That being said, the publisher has gone against the grain once before in recent times with the PSVR release of L.A Noire: The VR Case Files. Rather than having a hype period, the game was quietly released on PSVR with minimal fuss and build up. One day it was not there, the next day it was. Could this be a similar tactic for Red Dead Redemption Remastered? Maybe, and given that December 10th is also the date of the 2020 Game Awards show, it would make for one hell of an announcement.

My money is on this being a cheeky hoax, but my heart desperately wants it to be real. We’ll see in about 21 days, then…
