RIGS: Mechanized Combat League Developer Being Shut Down by Sony

Here’s something that’ll instill little faith in Sony’s commitment to the PSVR platform: The company is closing down Guerrilla Cambridge, the development studio that brought us RIGS: Mechanized Combat League for PSVR.
In a statement received by industry website GamesIndusty.biz, Sony states that the studio will be closing and all staff will be laid off, however, Guerrilla Amsterdam, the studio behind the Killzone series and the upcoming Horizon: Zero Dawn, will not be affected.
“Whilst we accept that this decision will mean that we risk losing high calibre staff, by focusing on other Studios with exciting new projects in development, (including continued work on PlayStation VR), we believe we will be in a stronger position going forward and able to offer the best possible content of the highest quality to our players.”
Well, at least Sony mentions that other studios are continuing to work on PSVR, though there hasn’t been much news of first-party content since launch. Paint us a little worried…
Naturally we feel rather bad for those who’ve started the new year with a redundancy, and we hope they find work sooner rather than later. They’re a skilled bunch so we reckon it’s only a matter of time. Still, just after Christmas…
Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
