Fresh off the back of the Watch Dogs 3 rumour, the next Assassin’s Creed game has allegedly been leaked as a cross-gen game coming to both the current-gen PS4 and next-gen PS5.
This leak is from the same 4Chan poster who spoke about Watch Dogs 3 releasing later this year with London being its location. The leaker claims that the next Assassin’s Creed will take players back to Rome, though there’s very little chance of Ezio making a return.
The leaker says that the next Assassin’s Creed will release in 2020 as a cross-gen title. That means it will release on the PS4 as well as the unannounced PS5. This isn’t that barmy to think of, really. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was released on PS3 and PS4, so it’s entirely possible that the new Assassin’s Creed will release on the old and new PlayStation consoles. In fact, I’d bet money on it.
It’s said that the new game is codenamed Assassin’s Creed: Legion and will take place during the end of Marcus Aurelius’ reign. If you’re not too hot on ancient history, I suggest hitting up Google. I had to…
According to the leaker, Assassin’s Creed: Legion is being developed by Ubisoft Sofia and that the game will feature a lot more of the first civilisation, however, the first civ storylines will be secondary to the main plot that surrounds politics and the Assassin Brotherhood.
The leaker also states that Ubisoft want to make the game feel a little more like the older Assassin’s Creed games to keep old fans happy, but it will still include RPG elements to keep fans of Orgins and Odyssey happy.
It’s still just a rumour at this point and I don’t expect Ubisoft to come out and announce the game anytime soon, especially if it’s not releasing until 2020. I could be wrong, but my guess is that Ubisoft will want to keep the focus on Watch Dogs 3 this year in order to maximise sales of the game, and then early 2020 we’ll get our first official look at Assassin’s Creed: Legion. Heck, it might even be called something else – we’ll just have to wait and see.
One last thing – and I was hesitant to include this – the poster has also leaked an image from the new Assassin’s Creed. I can’t be sure if it’s legit, so take it at face value and nothing more.
Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
