Shadow of the Colossus is about to see its third PlayStation console release which speaks volumes about the game. Unfortunately this writer has never gotten around to playing more than a few minutes of the much revered game. It may just be that the third time will be a charm as a rebuilt from the ground up remaster is about to hit the PS4. From the looks of it, the reworking by Bluepoint games is a real stunner so it’s only fitting that the game will feature a very expansive photo mode.
If you are unfamiliar with photo mode, it’s a nifty little editing tool present in many PS4 games that allows you to create masterpieces of your favorite game screenshots. Photo mode was such an integral part of Horizon Zero Dawn that Guerrilla Games held a contest for users who submitted their best captures, the winners had their screenshots turned into real life art and signed by the devs. Aside from being able to change angles, the time of day, and other cool features, you also have a bunch of filters to select from that drastically change colors and effects. According to Bluepoint’s Mark Skelton, everything that he had access to as an art director will be at your disposal and some of the filters can be left running during gameplay.
Shadow of the Colossus is widely hailed as one of the most visually stunning games and is often mentioned as an example of video game as art. If you fancy yourself as the next Ansel Adams of gamers Shadow of the Colossus releases exclusively on the PS4 February 6, 2018. Until then check out a few of the screenshots Bluepoint captured in photo mode.
