No, our calender’s are correct: Today is April 14th, 2018. This is not us carrying on the April Fools’ party, this is real stuff. Sega has announced today that it’s bringing the two original Shenmue games to PS4.
According to Sega, Shenmue and Shenmue 2 will feature some enhancements by way of modernised controls (original is still an option), higher resolutions, and a generally cleaner presentation with a reworked UI. There’s a short trailer up above to go with the announcement, but bear in mind it’s being labelled as a “work in progress” so it may look significantly different come release day.
While this is great news, we can’t help but feel a tad disappointed that we’re not being treated to a full-on remake. The Shenmue games were lookers back in their Dreamcast days, but they don’t really compare to games of today’s standards. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Will you be dipping your toes into Shenmue for the first time this year, or are you a seasoned forklift driver already? Shimmy on down to the comments section below.
