It seems like the best modern Sonic game may be a reinterpretation of classic Sonic games. Sonic Mania gave us HD retro visuals with a silky 60FPS smoothness. Not content to rest on their laurels, Sega is bringing Sonic Mania Plus on July 17th, and it’s more of an upgrade to the original than a complete reworking.
Sonic Mania Plus will be adding two new characters to its roster and a new mode. Ray the Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo will be playable characters. Encore Mode will put new spins and challenges on the existing levels. The Competition Mode and Time Attack Mode will also see some updates, including allowing up to four players.
The physical edition will include an art book, a holographic package, and a reversible mega drive cover. If you bought the game digitally, you will be able to buy the DLC to upgrade the game for £3.99.
Press Release from Sega
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
