It has finally happened: Sony has snapped up Insomniac Games, the development studio best known for its Ratchet & Clank games, as well as last year’s PS4 exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Insomniac Games has always been closely associated with the PlayStation brand ever since the days of the PS1 where Insomniac released the original Spyro trilogy. The on PS2 we got the Ratchet & Clank games, which carried on over to the PS3, where Insomniac also released the Resistance trilogy.
This console generation has been a little different for the famed studio; Insomniac released Sunset Overdrive on Xbox One as an exclusive, and has since worked on a handful of virtual reality titles for PC VR headsets. Now, though, Insomniac Games will be strictly PlayStation-focused. Fingers crossed that Insomniac Games gets the chance to develop some VR games for Sony’s PSVR and, eventually, the PSVR 2 that will inevitably be available for the PS5.
So, yeah, expect the next Spider-Man game to definitely be a PlayStation exclusive.
Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
