Sony Patents a New DualShock 4 Controller With Changeable Features

The DualShock 4 controller for the PS4 is pretty robust bit of kit that most players are seemingly happy with. That’s not to say it’s perfect and can’t be improved.

Not too long ago, Sony’s competitor Microsoft released a new version of the Xbox One controller, the Xbox One Elite, that featured interchangeable buttons and triggers. While this has been great for the Xbox One players, PS4 ladies and gentlemen have had to make do with the bog-standard DualShock 4 since launch.

That could change, though, as a new patent filed by Sony seems to suggest that the platform holder is looking at bringing out its own upgraded controller. The images below show a few of the proposed deigns from the patent filing, though it’s worth noting that patents do tend to be different to the final product.

[Update: It turns out this patent has actually been floating around for a couple of years, though Sony has recently re-filed the patent. Whether this means the firm is serious about the design and intends to bring it to the market, or just wants to protect its designs, isn’t yet clear.]
