Sony has announced today that Spider-Man: Miles Morales will indeed be launching on PS4 as well as PS5 this holiday season, despite the game originally being announced as a next-gen only release.
What’s more, the game will actually be cheaper than a regular release. Instead of the standard retail pricing of $59.99, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will only be $49.99, and the local equivalents.
There’s no reason given for the sudden flip of the switch, but it’s good for PS4 players who may not be upgrading to PS5 just yet. To help ease that burden, the gam will also have a next-gen upgrade path, meaning that if you buy on PS4, you’ll get the PS5 edition at no extra cost once you have a console.
And finally, there’s the Ultimate Edition. If you get the Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, you’ll get a voucher code for the original game on PS5. But it won’t just be a simple port of the original. Instead, Sony is positioning it as a remaster, as well as a complete bundle that includes the three City That Never Sleeps DLC.
According to Sony, the Marvel’s Spider-Man remaster comes with updated art assets that take advantage of the PS5’s power. That means improved character models, facial animations, and more, including ray-traced reflections, improved lighting and more. The game will also target 60fps, which implies that the game hits the frame rate target, but not enough to say it’s a steady 60fps, but we’ll see.
