Rage alongside the corporate machine.
The deal, worth some €38.5 million, with potential future payments up to €15 million, sees Dotemu join Focus Home Interactive’s growing stable of in-house developers.
The reason for the deal, according to the press release, is that Focus Home Interactive wants a slice of that retro gaming pie.
It’s a lucrative pie, after all, with Dotemu having had massive success with Streets of Rage 4, which recently got a brilliant expansion. The developer is also working on another retro-inspired brawler, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, which will now fall under Focus Home Interactive’s portfolio, as well as the rest of Dotemu’s back catalogue of works.
What does this mean for Dotemu fans going forward? Not much should change, really, as the developer/publisher will continue as normal. Longer term, however, could be a different story. With the financial backing of FHI, we could see the Streets of Rage 4 developer tackle bigger and more ambitious projects. We’ll have to wait and see.
