Warner Bros. Games, DC, and Rocksteady Studios have officially unveiled the next game set in the Arkham universe with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be a next-gen only release, but as it’s still a couple of years away, there’s plenty of time to save up for a PS5 or an Xbox Series X, or to upgrade your dusty desktop.
The announcement comes with a four-minute trailer setting the scene as Harley Quinn, Sharkman, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot encounter a bunch of alien baddies before being approached by the familiar blue and red spandex suit of Superman. Except, this isn’t Superman as we know him. The caped boy scout is shown saving a helicopter pilot before killing him with his eye lasers. Maybe killing the Justice League is actually a good thing?
The game is set within the DC universe, where the members of the Suicide Squad are being forced to comply due to them having explosive chips implanted in their heads. Their task is to kill the Justice League, otherwise, they’ll be showering the world with their brain matter. Delicious.
In a first for Rocksteady, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will feature co-op multiplayer, though the game can be played solo from start to finish. In another twist, the game is described as being an action-adventure-shooter, implying that there will be a bigger focus on gun combat than on powerful, rhythmic hand-to-hand combat like in the Batman: Arkham series.
“Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League showcases Rocksteady Studios’ ability to combine masterful storytelling and compelling gameplay based on well-known DC characters,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Games. “The team is creating a genre-defining experience that brings the formidable Suicide Squad to life in a way that has never been done before.”
“Our team is excited to officially announce Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and provide a glimpse into our latest project,” said Sefton Hill, Creative Director and Co-founder, Rocksteady Studios. “We’re introducing an original take on the Suicide Squad that combines the rich, character-driven storytelling Rocksteady is known for with innovative gameplay features to create a unique gaming experience.”
The playable characters featured in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League are Harley Quinn (a.k.a. Dr. Harleen Quinzel), the mistress of mayhem; Deadshot (a.k.a. Floyd Lawton), the most dangerous marksman alive; Captain Boomerang (a.k.a. Digger Harkness), Aussie assassin extraordinaire; and King Shark (a.k.a. Nanaue), the demigod humanoid shark and rightful ruler of the seas. Each squad member has their own unique moveset with enhanced traversal abilities to freely explore the dynamic open-world of Metropolis, along with a variety of weapons to customize and skills to master.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will release in 2022 on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
