Famitsu has confirmed that last week’s rumours are true. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is coming to PlayStation 4 and the game is a remaster – just not the one anyone was hoping for.
The publication also confirmed that our food hunches were right. But the news remains bittersweet.
That’s because we were all expecting – scrap that, hoping – that the listing would be a remake of Super Monkey Ball 1 or 2 in full high definition glory. But instead we’re getting the less enjoyed Nintendo Wii title, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, along with its ‘quantity over quality’ approach to mini games and out of place jump mechanic. Two fundamental parts of the game that ultimately spoiled the (rolling) ride.
Considering the strong titles that Sega has been commissioning for remaster recently, it wasn’t unfair to assume that they’d go with an installment of the series that fans enjoyed. Even adored. But alas it was not meant to be. Perhaps they will follow? Although, why you would then start in the middle with a title that few perceived to live up to the series’ potential is being beyond me. The only answer I have to that is ‘this is the video games industry’ and ‘everything is possible’.
Still, the screenshots are pretty.
