I’m a simple man. I see anime, and I want to watch it. I’m not sure if this strictly qualifies as anime, but there is an animated opening trailer available for Sword of the Necromancer today. It’s a dungeon crawler roguelike, so this trailer gets the story ideas across very well. Two people are torn apart, and you will need to fight an army of monsters to revive someone you love.
It’s really all you need to know, but there is more to the story. Tama the rogue is trying to bring the priestess Koko back from the dead. Tama carries the magical Sword of the Necromancer which allows you to revive dead enemies and make them fight for you. As you journey into the dangerous dungeons, you will equip weapons, find new monsters to recruit, and learn more about the past between Tama and Koko.
Each run has roguelike elements. You will be fighting your way through the levels until you die. Death forces you to lose all your equipped weapons and monster army, but you will retain some of your level progress. Keep leveling up to take on the guardians and eventually you will face the necromancer. Since it’s dangerous to go alone, the game does include a local co-op mode.
If you want to give the game a whirl, there is a Steam prologue that will let you take on the early levels. The full game won’t hit the PS4 until December and appear on the PS5 sometime later. Until then, give the trailer a watch to add just a little more animation to your day.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
