Tales of Arise Free Demo Out Now on PS5, PS4

Some JRPG goodness for the weekend.

Fans of The Tales series can rejoice today as the demo for the newest title, Tales of Arise, is available to download now.

Tales of Arise is the 17th title in the series and like previous entries in the series has a much bigger emphasis on action rather than traditional turn-based gameplay found in most JRPG titles.

The Tales series has followed a very specific formula for the last two generations of consoles, and one could argue that if it’s not broke don’t fix it, but Tales of Arise is boundary-pushing for the series and the first entry to look truly ‘next-gen’.

Bandai Namco has aimed to take the Tales combat system to new heights with the new, linear motion battle system, while still retaining elements of the classic battle system. Players will be able to control 6 characters: Alphen, Shionne, Rinwell, Law, Kisara, and Dohalim.

As expected they all come with their own unique perks, abilities, and artes. Each character also has access to their own boost attacks, a new feature, which can swing the tides in battles. For Instance, Alphen can swing his fire sword to deal break damage, and Rinwell can steal arcane artes and prevent enemies from casting.

The demo will also give players a chance to get to grips with the new cure points system. Rather than healing spells, the party will receive a set amount of cure points that must be managed and used tactically as they can only be replenished through the use of items, or by resting at an inn or camp. Some familiar features will be returning such as cooking and crafting which has been upgraded and expanded for Tales of Arise.

Unfortunately, character levels and progress will not carry over to the base game, but completing the demo will give you access to the Vacation Hootle doll.
