The latest trailer for Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy is fresh from the Tokyo Game Show, and there is a lot to like. The beginning has the band getting back together and reminiscing over the last adventure while acknowledging everyone has grown. From there, we shoot forward to images of the five ruins. Since exploring ruins is one of my favorite things to do in games, I’m happy to see it will be a focus for the game. We also see an image of the new creature Fi, before jumping into alchemy and combat. It’s a good general overview of the game, and I think it will make fans happy.
There is some controversy in the trailer however that could also anger fans. If you check the comments on the trailer uploaded to PlayStation’s YouTube channel, you’ll see that some gamers are saying that Sony’s up to its old censoring tricks again. The trailer uploaded to Koei Tecmo Europe’s channel doesn’t show a dust cloud at 1:47 when Serri is attacking. Click here for the timestamp to Koei Tecmo’s trailer and here for the same timestamp on PlayStation’s channel. What’s even weirder is that the dust cloud also appears on the Koei Tecmo America trailer, but not the Koei Tecmo Europe trailer I have linked for comparison. It does look suspicious, but maybe those with sharper eyes can let me know what they think. I’m really hoping this isn’t censorship by Sony, especially since Nintendo probably won’t be censoring anything.
On the plus side, Koei Tecmo confirmed the game will be coming to the PS5 on the official site. The trailer also lets you listen to some of Atelier Ryza 2’s official theme song, “Somewhen Somewhere…” by Clammbon.
The one thing we still didn’t learn was the official release date for everyone not in Japan, but it’s still confirmed to be coming this winter. With everything else being pushed out, that’s still good news for anyone looking forward to taking a new adventure with old friends in Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy.
