The Colonists Sets Up Camp on PS5, PS4 This Year

Age of Androids

The Colonists will be moving on from PC to set up a new camp on consoles later this year, the game’s creators have announced.

Auroch Digital, Code by Fire, and Mode 7 have announced today that they’ll be bringing The Colonists to PS5, PS4, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch later this year, though there is no firm release date at this time.

What is The Colonists?

Good question, and one I had to ask, too, as I’ve never heard about it until the presser landed in my emails today.

The Colonists is a settlement building game that takes inspiration from classics in the genre, such as The Settlers and the Anno series. However, instead of ordering little men and women around to gather resources and fight in wars, you’ll order robots to gather resources and fight in wars. At least there will be no blood…

The game has been well-received on Steam where it received praise for its great gameplay and easy-to-use networking system; building road, boat, and train transport lines is essential to success, and it seems like The Colonists get this right.

You can play as peacefully as you want, slowly building your perfect robot utopia, or you can engage in military-style winner-takes-all challenges.

The console version has been refined for controllers, too. According to the developers, the controls have been reworked from the ground-up so that they feel great in the hand. The user-interface has been optimised for consoles, too, accommodating controller play.

There’s no release date yet, nor are there any console-specific trailers, though they’re all come soon enough. In the meantime, you can sign up for the game’s mailing list to be in with a chance to win a free copy of the game.
