The Flame in the Flood is a rogue-lite, survival game in which you navigate your boat down a river with every gamer’s favorite type of companion, a dog. (His name is Aesop in case you were wondering.) Along the way, you will need to scavenge for supplies, so that you can craft and upgrade your boat, make traps, and generally not die. The world is procedurally-generated, so it should keep you on your toes.
In case you did not know, the developer is The Molasses Flood. They are a group of AAA veterans who hail from companies such as Irrational, Harmonix, and Bungie. They have worked on Halo, Rock Band, Bioshock, and Guitar Hero. The soundtrack was created by Chuck Ragan, and it is a mix of country, folk, and just a touch a touch of blues and bluegrass. You can check it out here.
The Complete Edition of The Flame in the Flood will come with a developer commentary, a dynamic theme, and avatars. The game will be available January 17th, so you will not have to wait long.
If you were going to pick the perfect animal companion for a survival game, would it be a dog, or would you choose something else? We would probably choose a sabertooth tiger, but we like to be prepared. Let us know your best picks in the comments.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
