The Last of Us Part 2 seems to have done even better than previously thought. That’s because the game has today been named the ‘most awarded game’ – ever. And as a result, it has stolen the crown from The Witcher 3. It has also set an even higher bar for developers to aim for. One that I don’t think will be toppled any time soon.
Considering the amount of effort that was put into the game, both technically and artistically, it is nice to see it being rewarded for it. And to be rewarded in such a manner as this, too – that being, to beat The Witcher 3 in its greatest achievement to date. It was a record held for over five years, but that has now been surpassed by a single award.
Yes, you read that right. The Last of Us Part 2 now holds 261 awards to The Witcher 3’s 260 (as reported by The Game Awards tracker). Talk about close!
But it must be remembered that Geralt is unlikely to win any/many more. So, The Last of Us Part 2 is only going to increase its tally further. The question now is, how much higher can it soar in the silverware department? Not to mention, will it be anther five years before we see it dethroned? Running through the upcoming games in my head, that wait is very likely. You see, Cyberpunk 2077 may have been a rival if it hadn’t have launched as it did. And the likes of The Elder Scrolls are still a few years away yet. The only one I can see coming close is the Harry Potter RPG (now due to launch in 2022). But that’s largely down to its name more than anything – hardly scientific, I’d agree…
