Developer Firesprite Games has announced today that it will be re-releasing its critically acclaimed PSVR horror game, The Persistence, on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC as a regular ‘flat’ game release on May 21st, 2020.
The PSVR version of The Persistence originally released back in 2018 and was well received by critics and fans alike, including us in our glowing review, which you can read here. Now, The Persistence will be available to all, regardless of whether they have a PSVR headset or not.
“When we made the move to bring The Persistence to new platforms, our key focus was to ensure that the particularly brutal nature of gameplay made the leap to non-VR,” says Graeme Ankers, MD and founder of Firesprite Games. “As a result, The Persistence keeps players on edge from beginning to end, and with a procedurally generated environment forming around them, no two playthroughs are ever identical, meaning you will never find safety in the same spot.”

For those who own the PSVR version of The Persistence, there will be a free update available that will give players the choice between playing in VR mode or in regular ‘flat’ mode. The benefit of the latter is that you won’t need a PSVR headset, and you’ll also get some new visual features as the game isn’t being held back by the need to keep a high refresh rate for VR. So this new version comes with enhanced environments, graphics, and post-processing effects.
There will be a physical release at some point, however, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the physical release date has not been set in stone just yet.
The Persistence features:
A brutal take on the survival-horror genre that integrates rogue-like design elements to give the action an extra edge
Procedurally generated stages that change with each playthrough, creating a labyrinth-like experience that adds to the tension
Live, die, repeat. Play as dozens of different clones on board the ship, each one with the potential to be stronger than the last
Tailored controls. enhanced environments and post-processing effects for PC, PS4 and Xbox One deliver a heightened fidelity of horror for fans of the genre
Atmospheric, cutting-edge visuals in docked, handheld or tabletop modes for the Nintendo Switch platform
