Ever since the first Uncharted game graced our now-retired PS3s, there’s been talk of an Uncharted movie. Back in the day, it was rumoured that Sony wanted to take Nathan Drake to the silver screen, but over the last decade, we’ve seen writers, directors, and actors join the project only to leave soon after. It’s been cursed, basically, and it’s always seemed like it was never going to actually happen.
Well now it is, and that’s confirmed by Sony’s Head of Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst.
During Hulst’s interview on the PlayStation Blog where he spoke about Horizon Zero Dawn releasing on PC, among other things, Hulst confirmed that the Uncharted movie is in production and filming will begin this month in partnership with Columbia Pictures. Finally…
Hulst confirmed that Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, and Antonio Banderas were all on board for the shoot, with Holland playing Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg playing Sully, and Antonio Banderas playing an unknown character.
Strangely enough, one of those cast members has been attached to the Uncharted movie for a long time: Mark Wahlberg. The popular action film star was originally slated to play Nathan Drake back in the early days of the movie’s inception, but now he’s going to be playing Nathan Drake’s mentor Sully. Odd, no? He’s not even that old.
Providing there aren’t any issues or delays, the Uncharted movie will release on March 5th, 2021. If it actually happens, well, I’ll be god damned.
