The Witcher 3 GOTY Edition Will Not Support Vanilla Version Save Data

Disappointing news today for Witcher fans as CD Projekt Red community lead, Marcin Momot, has updated the game’s forum with the information that fans who played through the original version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will not be able to continue their progress in the GOTY Edition.

The full quote also suggests that there was little the developers could do to avoid this: “The save files on consoles won’t be compatible between different game versions (GOTY vs regular version) as they are treated by systems as separate products. This is something that’s not up to us. Sorry.”

It has also been confirmed via Twitter that the game, releasing August 30th complete with all the current DLC packs, will come with its own achievements list.

While the GOTY Edition is specifically targeted at newcomers, anyone who sold their original copy or was waiting for a discounted GOTY version to play the DLC will want to take note of this as they will be starting from scratch.

Pure Playstation loves to know what you think (mostly)! Does Marcin have a valid point? Could CD Projekt Red have offered an upload service to convert save data (or similar)? Will you be picking up The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GOTY either way? Let us know in the comments below.
