Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a game that brings together Gwent fans and fans of the Witcher universe (but maybe not its author). A new trailer lays out the story and world, demonstrates some mechanics, and drops a truckload of gameplay on your waiting eyes. If you want an elevator pitch for how the game will play, this is it, assuming your elevator is in motion for about three minutes. That would probably make it Mass Effect elevator pitch.
My dumb jokes aside, we see the main character Meve. She is the queen of Lyria and Rivia in the North. Nilfgaard is going to invade her home, and she doesn’t take kindly to uninvited guests. Without beating around the bush, I’m saying she builds an army to kill them, while also dodging spies and betrayal at every step. This is the Witcher universe. Things aren’t going to be easy.
It’s smaller than CD Projekt Red’s usual games, but it is promising around 30 hours of content with a card battling mechanic, world exploration, and narrative focus. We’ll see if it lives up to the high standards of the studio’s other games when it releases on December 4th.

Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
