Thunder Lotus Games, Creators of Jotun, Reveals New Hand Drawn Epic; Sundered

If you’re a fan of Pure Playstation, you’ll know we loved Thunder Lotus Games’ debut title, Jotun, which was recently released on PS4 as Jotun: Valhalla Edition. So much so, in fact, that we spoke to the creative director behind the title, Will Dubé, just a few short days ago. He was cagey about upcoming projects, and now we know why, as Thunder Lotus have today announced their new title ‘Sundered’. Check out the announcement trailer above, and join us below for a full run down of the press release.

What’s better than one artful hand-drawn adventure? Another one, apparently. We’re willing to believe it too, after seeing the announcement trailer for Thunder Lotus Games’ new title – Sundered. Described as a ‘darkly atmospheric, hand-drawn, action-horror game’, Sundered looks to switch the action to a side scrolling perspective and introduces elements of a Lovecraftian influence.

According to creative director Will Dubé; “Sundered is a game that builds on the strengths of Jotun: hand‐drawn art, epic boss battles and great immersion. With Sundered, we’ve added more complex mechanics, tons of replayability and meaningful choices. Finally, we’ve gone into a darker universe, heavily inspired by Lovecraft’s writings.”

There’s not much info on this newly announced title yet; we know the main character’s name is Eshe, and he (or she) will be fighting their way out of ‘ever-changing caverns filled with eldritch horrors’ (our favourite kind of horrors). The press release goes on to say that Eshe will harness the powers of corrupted relics to defeat gigantic bosses at the cost of their ‘humanity’. With the tagline ‘Resist or Embrace’, this seems to hint at some kind of player choice mechanic. This is not exactly confirmed, but we do know the game will have multiple endings so it seems likely.

Sundered is coming in 2017 for PS4, Xbox one and PC, and you can find all the info on the game here at Thunder Lotus’ website. Check out today’s first screenshots below, and feel free to get your excitement all over our comments section (but wipe off when you’re done, please).
