Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 may have been a very strong game. But when you’re launching up against a team of superheroes, you know the battle for sales is always going to be a tough one. And it has been. For the second week in a row, the skateboarding legend has had to accept the second step of the podium whilst Marvel’s Avengers enjoy all the glory. But that’s not to say it hasn’t been a close battle.
At least it’s good to see there’s still a market for these kind of games, and skateboards still don’t make us bored. They used to be two a penny, but now they’re only memories of a simpler (and not necessarily worse) gaming time.
Ignoring third (darn you Ninty), Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning took a surprising fourth – even though it has proven more frustrating than enjoyable, if comments online are anything to go by. And Minecraft Dungeons showed that the series is determined to continue its domination of the sector by taking sixth, one ahead of its namesake. NBA 2K21 is representing the sport simulation genre by itself, though that will undoubtedly change when this year’s FIFA game drops. And Grand Theft Auto V continues to defy the odds by clinging on to a Top Ten finish.
But, come one – by now who doesn’t own GTA V? It’s like Starbucks – only there’s one on every console rather than every street.
With the release of Super Mario 3D All Stars, Mafia remasters and the PES Season Update, the next couple of weeks could easily produce a change in this line up. The only question is, who will lose their place to make the room? I’m guessing not Grand Theft Auto V…
