Ubisoft’s New FPS XDefiant is a Mashup of Splinter Cell and Other Tom Clancy Games

Ubisoft announced its new free-to-play first-person shooter and the reception has been… less than stellar. But it’s an interesting-looking game nonetheless.

Ubisoft has officially announced XDefiant as a free-to-play multiplayer shooter and it’s coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Stadia, Luna, and Ubisoft’s own Ubisoft Connect. But what is it?

Once again, Splinter Cell fans have been left out in the cold as yet another Tom Clancy game has been announced only for it not to be Splinter Cell. It does have a bit of Splinter Cell in it, though.

XDefiant is a hero shooter with four factions from different Tom Clancy Games. The Wolves are from Ghost Recon, Echelon is from Splinter Cell, while the Outcasts and the Cleaners are from the more The Division.

Each faction has a set of characters that can be customised and taken in battle in 6v6 matches in standard game modes like Domination and Team Deathmatch.

Peep this:  Horizon Forbidden West Delayed? Probably

And, as this is a “hero shooter” at its core (think Overwatch but with Tom Clancy properties) customisation and special abilities are front and centre.

The reveal trailer, which is seven kinds of cringe, features the creative director, Jason Schroeder, and the executive producer, Mark Rubin, as they talk us through the trailer. They collectively cringed my brain to pieces when they described the game as “fast-paced firefights meets punk rock mosh pit.”

And that’s where they lost me. I’m out.

If you think you can do a better job at covering XDefiant, please do get in touch for a paid writing job. I’m serious. I don’t want to be the one writing about this game.
