The surreal indie game Where the Heart Leads has a release date on PS5 and PS4, but it’s still some time away. Bah, humbug!
Armature Studio has announced that it will be releasing its surreal, time-bending narrative-driven game, Where the Heart Leads, on PS5 and PS4 on July 13th, 2021. Yes, it’s still a while away, but as we’re unlikely to have proper summer holidays this year, maybe it’s worth jotting down games to play over the summer?
Where the Heart Leads will release digitally on the PlayStation Store for PS5 and PS4, but there will also be a physical version releasing on the same day by publisher Perp Games. Handy if you’re a fan of the physical format.
What is Where the Heart Leads?
Where the Heart Leads is a game about a man – Whit Anderson – and his love for his dog. After slipping through a sinkhole in an effort to save the family pooch, he ends up taking a journey through time with recollections of his past, present, and even the future. Whit discovers that nothing is set in stone and he can change everything.
The game promises thousands of choices that players can make throughout the game as well as dozens of different endings to the emotional story of Whit Anderson. And, what’s really impressive, is that the game features a 600,000-word script. That’s the equivalent of five novels, or, as the presser states, one of the biggest AAA RPGs.

“The lives we lead are tangled—countless unseen threads chronicle our story,” said Todd Keller, director, Armature Studio. “Where the Heart Leads tugs on these knots, inviting players to reflect on where they’ve been, where they’re going, and what’s most important, even when life is frightening and the road uncertain.”
The release date announcement comes with a new trailer showing three minutes of gameplay in the surreal world of Where the Heart Leads. It’s worth a watch, for sure, so give it a look down below.
