If you are headed to PAX East (starting tomorrow), XSEED Games will have four of its titles ready for you to try. There is a good slice of different genres, and nothing sells you on a title like actual hands-on experience. I’ll throw some info on each of the four games and some trailers, so you can see which one you should line up for first. Just a warning, one of these games is on another console, but I’m throwing it in any way for a more complete look at what you can expect.
Granblue Fantasy: Versus
Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a fighting game from Cygames and the fighting experts at Arc System Works. It’s releasing on March 3rd, so you’ll have a chance to try the two-player combat. The full release will have local or online play with two players, or you can face the AI alone. The game is promising a cast of characters from the IP with unique fighting styles and plenty for you to master.
Rune Factory 4 Special
This one is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch, but, if you like XSEED Games and are already at the booth, you can give this one a try too. It’s a farming and fighting sim mix that has been remade from the 3DS. New features such as the Newlywed Mode give you a greater insight into the married life, and they are also throwing in dual audio and a higher difficulty.
Ys: Memories of Celceta
This action RPG is a remaster of a game originally on the PS Vita. The visuals have been HD-ified and it will run at 60 FPS. It follows the journey of Adol Christin as he wakes up and remembers nothing but his name. He will try to remember his past while going on a quest to map the dangerous forest of Celceta, but the most dangerous part maybe some of the people he meets along the way. This one also features dual audio, a feature I personally appreciate. We only have a 2020 release date on this one for now, but if you’re at the booth, maybe they will tell you.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
This one was announced at E3 last year, and it’s really interesting. Sakuna is a spoiled harvest goddess who has been banished to an island. She’ll need to help the local population by farming, and she’ll need to keep them safe by fighting. The twist is that the farming is 3D while the fighting is side-scrolling action. The developers are behind the game Astebreed, and it has a nice visual style. It’s launching sometime this year.
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to go to PAX East this year, but we’ll be watching all of these games and more coming this weekend.
We sometimes link to online retail stores. If you buy something from our links, we may make a small commission which goes towards keeping the lights on and coffee in the pot.
Jason became terminally addicted to videogames after receiving the NES at an early age. This addiction grew to include PC gaming and was cemented with the launch of the PS2. From then on, he was afflicted with epic RPGs, tense shooters, and deep strategy games, never becoming skillful, but never able to quit. He continues to play games (poorly) and share his passion for them to anyone willing to listen.
