Playtonic Games and Team 17 have officially unveiled the next chapter in the Yooka-Laylee series, and it’s not what I’d have expected from a sequel.
The new game, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, takes players away from the large open worlds found in the first game and instead offers up a hybrid style of gameplay. Levels are now 2.5D sidescrollers, though there is a 3D overworld that is seen from a top-down perspective.
Yooka and Laylee are still a force to be reckoned with, though, what with their abilities that can be – and must be – combined to beat the challenging platforming levels and puzzles. The end goal is, as you may have already guessed, to reach Capital B’s Impossible Lair.
There’s not much else to say about The Impossible Lair at this time. The press release notes that there will be more information released during E3 week and that the game will released in 2019, though no exact dates have been confirmed just yet.
For now we have a trailer and the promise of a boxed edition coming to consoles as well as a digital release. It’s always nice to see games making their way to shelves.
The original Yooka-Laylee release back in 2017 to somewhat mixed reviews from critics, though I found the game to be a total blast and ended up giving the game a 9/10. Heck, I even re-bought it for the Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch! You can read my positive review through here.
Chris has been writing about gaming news for far too long, and now he’s doing it even more. A true PlayStation know-it-all, Chris has owned just about every Sony console that ever existed. Trophies are like crack to this fella. (Bronze trophies, that is – he only has one Platinum.)
