Yes, you read that right. Yooka-Laylee really is getting a downgrade on PS4. Don’t get your knickers in a twist, though, as it’s a free update that’s completely optional and you never have to use it if you don’t want to.
The 64-Bit mode was actually announced quite a while back but today the game’s developer, Playtonic Games, has released a new trailer for the downgraded mode and stated that it’s coming “very soon”.
Basically, the update gives players the option the play Yooka-Laylee in ’64-Bit’ mode where the graphics have been blurred and stretched and downgraded to emulate the appearance of classic 64-Bit games, namely Banjo-Kazooie and Mario64. To be fair, the trailer actually makes it look pretty good. Yes, it looks like shite, but it’s the good kind of shite – nostal-shite, if you will.
There’s no release date for the update, but I imagine it’ll be out before the end of the year if Playtonic is saying that it’s coming very soon.
